Fire Safety Audit is conducted in pursuant to Fire Risk Reduction Rules, 2007 which requires that occupiers of a workplace should ensure that their workplace is audited annually by an approved Fire Safety Auditor. Fire safety management is the cornerstone of managing an economically viable
business. The requirement to manage fire safety effectively extends to all private and public business sectors. The failure to manage fire safety adequately may result in death or injury or damage to property and/or environmental degradation. Such results have a significant impact on the physical and economic well-being of the society. Failure to promote good safety standards can result in fire accidents and incidents. People will be affected both directly and indirectly. The fire audit is done through examination of the premises and relevant documents to ascertain how the premises are being managed regarding fire safety. The inspector may also wish to talk to members of staff to confirm their level of fire safety awareness.
During the audit, the following documents are reviewed:
• The organizations fire risk assessment
• The organizations fire precautions log book
• Records of staff training and drills
• Records of testing and maintenance of firefighting equipment
• Records of testing and maintenance of all fire safety systems including fire
alarms, emergency lighting, sprinkler systems and smoke ventilation systems
